Application of micronized titanium dioxide as inorganic UV- absorber
Unprotected wood changes the color when exposed to shortwave radiation and weathering. Depending on the different kinds of timber a fast discoloration can be observed, the wood turns yellowish or even brown. To reduce this effect UV- filters are added to the wood protective systems. Comparing UV- absorption and light transmission curves it has to be noticed that none of the well known UV- blocking agents fulfill the requirements for an ideal UV- absorber. Main criteria for the choice of micronized titanium dioxide as inorganic UV- absorber are long-term durability and color neutrality.
